Dear Newbie,

I know a little about what happened to a couple of the ladies you mentioned.
Taija Rae quit the business around '89/'90 or so, and had no contact with it afterwards. She always made me a little sad, as she was fine as cat hair and always felt she was fat. The reviews in the magazines were very cruel to her. I thought she was as foxy a woman as I'd seen, with those pouty lips and incredible natural tits and curvy, girly body. Yum! It was a frustration, though, as she was primarily heterosexual, and never was interested in me at all outside of a work situation. She really looked at it as a job, and I don't think she ever liked it very much.

Lois Ayres left the business in '90 or so (all dates approximate: the years run together a bit). She had a happier afterlife, I believe, but has not been in contact with the business for years.

Viper left the business abruptly at least 10 years ago and just vanished. By vanished I mean she couldn't be found by someone who looked everywhere for her. Her last boyfriend was heartbroken by her disappearance and looked everywhere for her: hospitals, mental institutions, prison, morgues. Nothing. And so it remains to this day.

Candy Samples, I'm not so sure about. I met her in '84 or '85, when she was a veteran being left behind by this new fangled video tape, and I was wet behind the ears. While I never did a scene with her myself, we were on at least two sets together. I haven't heard of her in years. Sorry I don't know more.

Taija probably thought she was fat because almost every review I saw on her mentioned it. I never understood what the hell they were talking about though. Taija had a very voluptuous body that wasn't fat or overweight at all. She had like perfect breasts and great legs, I especially loved her thighs.

There are few women in porn who had to take the abuse that she took. I was sad when she lost all that weight, because it just seemed like something she felt she had to do from all the naysayers always talking about it.

What seems to have happened to Tajia goes back to a theme here: the magazines can be cruel to female performers and is sexist and homophobic. So sorry to hear what happened to her.

Candy may be retired from films, but she still maintains a small presence with at least two activities. First, she continues to write (or at least have her name upon) a column in Juggs magazine, something she has done for many, many years. Second, she has a website, http://www.therealcandysamples.com/.

Candy is, I believe, somewhere past seventy now, so the fact the she still keeps up with a small amount of activity in adult entertainment is a tribute to the fact that the image she projected during her heyday in the the 70's and early 80's--the ultimate embodiment of lush, mature sexuality--has a substantial reality behind it. I don't think Candy needs the money; rather, I think she does the column and website because she enjoys this, and also enjoys keeping in touch with old fans. Quick FYI...for some reason unknown to me, Taylor Wayne is appearing at Wizard World Comic Cons (http://www.wizarduniverse.com) across the country. She'll be here in Philly....interesting. Aria Giovanniusually hits these shows too. Why? lol I've no idea.
